Radio postpones commencement of 2011 Brisbane radio surveys


The first radio audience survey in Brisbane for 2011, that was due to commence yesterday, Sunday 16 January, has been postponed.  Joan Warner, CEO of Commercial Radio Australia said; "Given the scale of the Queensland flood crisis and the challenging aftermath, we believe the main priority and focus of people in Brisbane, Ipswich and all flooded areas will be very much on clean up and recovery. 

While the floodwaters have started to recede, there are many factors that will make the conduct of a radio survey in Brisbane at this time unviable.  Access to nearly 50% of Brisbane collection districts and parts of Ipswich has not been possible. The huge clean-up task is now underway and likely to continue for some time.  In addition, weather forecasters have indicated the strong possibility of further rain creating potentially challenging situations in the coming weeks. We need to be sensitive to the impact of such a major natural disaster on the day to day lives of Brisbane and Ipswich residents."

The radio industry is exploring available options with The Nielsen Company for the conduct of a radio survey in Brisbane in the coming weeks.

Radio stations throughout Queensland have played and continue to play a major role in the recent emergency throughout Queensland, and across Australia.  They have provided key information to listeners, especially at times when electricity supplies have been cut and other forms of communications have been unavailable.

Brisbane Radio Survey 2 will commence as scheduled on 13 February 2011”.
