Radio industry welcomes trigger event amendments legislation

Chief executive officer of Commercial Radio Australia, Joan Warner today welcomed the announcement by Minister Stephen Conroy that legislation for amendments to trigger events would be introduced into Parliament at the latest by the start of next year.

“The industry has been waiting on these legislative changes to the 2006 Media Ownership Act for some time,” Ms Warner said.

“The amendments will help reduce red tape in relation to 220 regional stations throughout Australia in regards to compliance issues around trigger events,” Ms Warner said.

“It is good news to hear from the Minister today at the radio conference on the Gold Coast that amendments will be passed in the foreseeable future. There has been much hard work by the industry to make this happen.”
