Australian wins Gold Award at ABU Festival

One of last year’s New Artist to Radio (NA2R) winners, Danielle Blakey, has won Gold in the inaugural ABU Radio Song Festival, announced yesterday in Korea. Danielle was entered by Commercial Radio Australia and competed against 14 other unsigned acts from around the Asia Pacific region.

This is the first year of the awards, which recognise the diverse musical talents of the region by showcasing the best new and original artists from countries across Asia, Australia and the Pacific.

Chief executive officer of Commercial Radio Australia, Joan Warner congratulated Danielle on her win and said her success highlighted the great talent coming through the Australian music scene.

“The ABU Radio Song Festival is in its first year of operation and aims to promote unsigned original music across Asia and the Pacific. Danielle performed in Seoul, Korea in conjunction with the ABU General Assembly. It was a glittering occasion and is sure to open doors to a broader international audience,” Ms Warner said.

Close to 1,500 people attended the event, which was held in the hall of the Korean Broadcasting System.

Danielle said she was very excited to win the Gold Award:” Thank you so much for inviting me and sending me over for this festival! It has honestly been such a great experience and a massive highlight of my career!
