Wollongong radio survey released

Results from the first 2015 all of industry radio rating survey in Wollongong will be released today after the introduction of a new initiative which has enabled a more cost effective audience measurement system for radio broadcasters outside of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Gold Coast, Canberra and Newcastle markets.

Wave FM, I98 FM and the ABC have all been part of the 2015 radio audience research conducted by Xtra Research which involved more than 1000 respondents between 6 – 23 October 2015.

The last survey in Wollongong under the new methodology was in March 2014 and was conducted by Iris Research.  Prior to the new initiative Nielsen conducted a previous survey in Wollongong in 2012.

Radio industry body, Commercial Radio Australia announced last year a new radio research protocol for regional licence areas outside the main GfK Radio Audience Measurement contract to allow more regular and less expensive research.
Under the new system, currently regional radio stations can commission one of four approved ratings survey contractors in conjunction with other commercial and public broadcasters in their licence area.

Radio industry body Commercial Radio Australia (CRA) has called for tenders for a single regional radio survey provider from 2016, and is also seeking interest from software providers to create a Gold Standard to take regional radio surveys into the next phase of development.

The successful tender for the CRA Regional Radio Audience Measurement will be announced by the end of 2015.

Wollongong is the tenth market to release regional radio ratings under the CRA Regional Radio Audience Measurement methodology: Wollongong, NSW, Albury, NSW; Swan Hill, VIC; Hobart, TAS; Horsham, VIC, Hamilton, VIC; and Colac, VIC, Warrnambool, NSW and Sunshine Coast, Qld.  In some areas it has been the first survey in a decade and advertisers both nationally and locally have responded positively to the research.

“Currently one of four approved regional ratings survey providers can undertake audience measurement surveys in conjunction with other commercial and public broadcasters in their licence area. The introduction of one official provider following the tender will maintain consistency across markets,” said Joan Warner, chief executive officer, Commercial Radio Australia.

The Wollongong regional survey results will be available from 10.00 am on the Radio It’s A Love Thing website.
