Griffith radio survey released

Radio ratings for the NSW town of Griffith will be released today, kicking off the first of 20 regional radio surveys to be conducted across Australia in 2016.

News, talk and sport station 2RG and hit music station 99.7 Star FM are part of the survey, which was conducted by Xtra Research.

“Listeners in regional Australia are a vital part of the commercial radio audience, so we’re delighted that Griffith is the first cab off the rank to be surveyed this year,” said Joan Warner, CEO of peak industry body Commercial Radio Australia.

“The ratings will provide valuable information on radio audiences for both stations and advertisers, and will help regional radio stations compete for advertising dollars,” she said.

The survey involved more than 800 respondents and was conducted from February 1-20, 2016.

Commercial Radio Australia announced earlier this year that radio surveys will be held in 20 key regional centres, as part of a move to put regional radio in the spotlight.  Key markets to be surveyed include Dubbo, Bendigo, Cairns, Toowoomba and Wagga Wagga.

General Manager of 2RG and 99.7 Star FM, Chris Corbett, said: “We’re very excited to be involved in the first radio ratings here for many years, and we’re confident that it will help us to more fully realise the important role radio plays in local communities.”

CRA introduced new measures last year to make regional surveys more cost effective and ensure data will be consistent across markets.  Xtra Research was appointed as the sole provider of regional radio surveys from January 2016 for all markets except the Gold Coast, Canberra and Newcastle.  In addition, four companies - Walk Creative, Landsberry & James, Total Exact Solutions and Roy Morgan Research - were certified as Regional Gold Standard software providers.

The Griffith regional survey results will be available from 10am AEDST on the Radio It’s A Love Thing website.
