Mackay radio ratings released

Mackay’s four major commercial radio stations will be focused on the release of radio ratings today to find out how their audiences have changed since the last survey in June 2016.
The stations are Grant Broadcasters’ Star 101.9 and 4MK and Southern Cross Austereo’s rebranded stations Hit100.3 Mackay and Triple M Mackay & the Whitsundays.
Mackay, which takes in the Whitsundays and Coalfields in north Queensland, was battered by Cyclone Debbie two months ago, with radio stations providing 24/7 updates during the disaster.
“Even in the internet age, live radio plays a lead role in local communities because we are there on the ground and able to get information and advice to listeners almost immediately,” said Joan Warner, chief executive officer of industry body Commercial Radio Australia.
Commercial radio stations in Mackay serve a population of 140,000 people aged 10+.
The Mackay survey is part of an initiative by the radio industry to measure radio audiences across regional Australia this year. 
The survey results will be released at 10am AEST and published on the Radio It’s A Love Thing website. 
The research was conducted by Xtra Insights from 8-27 May with a sample size of 1,000 participants.
Mackay is the twelfth regional survey to be released in 2017, following Port Macquarie/Kempsey, Ballarat, Launceston, Emerald, Dubbo, Mandurah, Wheatbelt, Esperance, Kingaroy, Mount Isa and Roma.
Radio surveys for Albury, Cairns and Coffs Harbour will also be released in June.
Data from all the regional surveys is available to media agencies online through the Frequency Regional Radio ratings analyser tool.
