The commercial radio sector in Australia demonstrates its support for the Australian music industry in many ways. The most obvious way is by broadcasting music performed by Australian artists. Commercial radio airplay promotes Australian artists and their music, which in turn generates income from sales, concert performances and royalties. It also helps to stimulate the production of Australian music.[1]
Under Code 4 of the Commercial Radio Codes of Practice (Codes), all members of Commercial Radio Australia are required to broadcast minimum quotas of 'Australian music'. The Codes were developed by Commercial Radio Australia with the input of member stations and are registered by the Australian Communications and Media Authority.
Statistics on the actual quotas achieved by each station are compiled by Commercial Radio Australia and passed on to the Australian Music Performance Committee (AMPCOM). AMPCOM is a voluntary body that was set up to monitor performance with Code 4 and its annual reports are available for download below.
