APRA Music Reporting
The following reports must be provided to Commercial Radio & Audio for forwarding to APRA. Reports should be sent to Commercial Radio & Audio within three weeks of the end of the relevant period.
Quarterly Census Reports
Under your station’s licence agreement with APRA, you are required to provide a quarterly census report generated from your station’s scheduling system. The census report provides a record of all playlist music broadcast by your station in a three month period.
Paper Logs
Under your station’s licence agreement with APRA, you are required to provide paper logs showing production music used in audio productions (like commercials, themes or promos). Your station has to report the type of music use in sample weeks. These vary from four weeks a year (for regional stations) to 12 weeks a year (for metropolitan stations).
To comply fully with all your reporting requirements, you must complete all pages of the paper logs and submit them to us within three weeks after the end of the relevant sample week. Any sections of the paper logs that you don’t use must be marked as “NIL”. Do not submit any blank pages as APRA may assume that you have not fully completed all the forms.
Submitting Your APRA Reports To Commercial Radio & Audio
All APRA Reports can be submitted to us by any of the following methods:
- email: apra@commercialradio.com.au; and
- facsimile: 02 9281 6599
PPCA
Under the current industry agreement between CRA and the PPCA, the Licence Fee payable by members of CRA is a combined annual fee totalling percentage of ‘whole-of-industry’ gross annual revenue. This agreement covers the stations licence for the terrestrial broadcast of their content. CRA engages an independent auditor to calculate the actual payment to be made by each station.
The appropriate Licence Fee payable for a station’s simulcast of its content is the subject of a reference to the Copyright Tribunal, filed by PPCA in September 2013. This matter was heard before the Copyright Tribunal in 2015, concluding in June. Pending the Tribunal’s decision, those stations that wish to simulcast may do so under the Interim Licence Scheme.
